New Canaan Country School, founded in 1916 in New Canaan, Conn., is an independent, co-educational day school for students age 3 through grade 9. In a partnership with Brightcore Energy, a provider of end-to-end clean energy solutions for the commercial and institutional market based in Armonk, N.Y., the school switched its legacy lighting to energy-efficient LED lighting in the Thacher Building, which houses the school’s Early Childhood Education center.
All lighting in the building was upgraded through a combination of installing new integrated LED fixtures and retrofitting existing fixtures with new LED lamps and ballasts, as well as installing sensors and controls on both the interior and exterior of the building. More than 300 fixtures were upgraded. The company also helped New Canaan Country School secure a rebate from the local utility, equivalent to 25% of the total project cost.
“This LED upgrade project contributed significantly to New Canaan Country School achieving the overall sustainability goals we set for our campus,” says Bob Mueller, chief financial officer for the school. “The project is expected to reap a 75% reduction in annual energy usage for lighting in our Early Childhood Education center, which is remarkable.”
