According to a leading news website, the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced to launch of the much delayed LED street light project, where all conventional street lamps across forty one wards will be replaced by LED lights.

The civic authorities started the project on the cross road from Poura Bhavan to Laboni island. According to the reports, the project is estimated to cost around Rs 32 crore. Moreover, as per the plan, more than 26,000 conventional streetlights will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lamps.

Furthermore, according to the officials there will be LED lamps with different wattage ranging from 24 watts to 160 watts. The main roads will have LED lights of a higher watt.

It is estimated that the civic authorities pay an electricity bill of over 1.5 crore, however, after the installation of LED lights, the bill is going to come down by almost 60%. The LED lamps would also have chip based sensors that will help to monitor the lights from the control room at Paura Bhavan.

In case of a malfunction or any other technical issue, the authorities will be notified through signals and will be able to identify the faulty street light.
