LED lights to brighten up Manchester Soccer Complex

LED lights will soon provide lighting for the Manchester Soccer Complex.

Workers with C&H Commercial Contractors of Manchester have been tasked with installing the lampposts.

Don Hershman, president of C&H Commercial Contractors, expects the project to be completed by the end of the month.

“Today, (Jan. 8), we are installing the LED light poles for the soccer fields here in Manchester for the city’s recreation department,” Hershman said.

The soccer fields will see a total of light poles, he said.

This is the first time the Manchester Soccer Complex will have lights, and the first soccer fields in Coffee County to have LED lighting, according to Hershman.

“Before, there was no lighting at the soccer fields in Manchester,” Hershman said. “This will be the first LED soccer fields in Coffee County.

“(The light poles) arrived a few weeks before Thanksgiving. We had to drill the holes 12 feet deep in this rock, which was a chore, but we got that done. Everything is in the ground – wiring and conduit. We are waiting on the power company. We should have the lights (ready) in a couple of weeks.”

The project is funded through a grant from the State of Tennessee for installation of lights and construction of restrooms at the soccer fields, and for playground renovation.

City officials voted in July to approve a contract with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to install lights and restrooms at the Manchester Soccer Complex at an estimated cost for the city of $336,000. The total cost of the project was estimated at $672,000, and the contract required the city to cover half of that amount.
